Your scripts and videos stay on your device. The app uses a few outside services to count how it is used, to run subscriptions, and to see which ads bring people to it. None of them receive your scripts, your captions or your videos. Speech recognition is Apple’s: it runs on your device when your iPhone or iPad has a speech model for the language you chose, and on Apple’s servers when it does not.

Updated .

What the app keeps, and where

Your projects (their titles and scripts), your recordings and their captions are kept in the app’s own storage on your device. There is no account and no cloud sync in the app. Deleting a project deletes its script and its recordings, and deleting the app removes everything it stored. Like any app’s files, they are included in your device backups if you back up your iPhone or iPad.

Background blur and background replacement run on your device. Nothing is uploaded to do them.

What leaves your device

ServiceWhat it receivesWhy
Apple speech recognitionThe audio of what you say while voice follow is on, or the audio of a take you add captions toTo match your voice to the script and to write captions. When your device has an on-device model for the language, the app requires recognition to stay on the device. When it does not, Apple’s servers do it, and the script is not sent with the audio.
Firebase Analytics and Remote Config (Google)Events such as “recording started”, how long a recording was, which tool was opened, whether a video was exported with captions, the subscription screen being shown, a purchase with its price and currency, and your answers to the questions at first launch (what you use the app for, how often)To understand how the app is used and to decide which version of the subscription screen a new install sees. Events never carry your script, captions or video. Google’s advertising identifier is not used by this build of Firebase.
AppsFlyerThat the app was installed and opened, and the purchase events aboveTo see which ad campaigns bring people to the app. AppsFlyer uses your device’s advertising identifier only if you allow tracking when iOS asks.
UXCamA recording of how the app’s screens are used: taps and gestures, with every screen blurred except the first-launch questions and the subscription screenTo find where people get stuck. Your camera image, your script and your videos are not visible in these recordings.
RevenueCat and AppleYour purchases and whether your subscription is active, with an app instance identifierTo sell and restore subscriptions. Payment is handled by Apple; the app never sees your payment details.
Your Photos libraryThe finished video, when you save itTo keep the video where you keep your others. The app asks for add-only access, so it cannot read what is already in your library.

The current version of the app has no feature that sends your script to an AI service.

Tracking

Once, after the first welcome screen, iOS asks whether the app may track you. The app’s explanation: it lets us see which ads brought people to the app, so we can stop paying for the ones that do not work. Saying no does not change anything in the app. If you say no, AppsFlyer does not receive your device’s advertising identifier. You can change the answer at any time in Settings, Privacy & Security, Tracking.

Permissions, and why each is asked for

PermissionUsed for
CameraRecording video
MicrophoneRecording sound, and listening while voice follow is on
Speech recognitionMatching your voice to the script, and writing captions
Photos (add only)Saving a finished video to your library
TrackingMeasuring which ads bring people to the app (see above)

Declining a permission turns off only what needs it.

What is not collected

  • No account, so no name, email address, phone number or password.
  • No contacts, location or health data.
  • No advertising inside the app.
  • No selling of your data.

Purchases

Subscriptions are sold by Apple through the App Store. The app receives only what it needs to know: which plan you have and whether it is active.

Children

The app is rated 4+ and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.

Deleting your data

Delete a project to remove its script and recordings, or delete the app to remove everything it stored on your device. The usage data held by the services above is kept under their own retention rules and is not linked to a name or an email address, because the app never asks for either. To ask for anything about your data, use the contact details below.

This website

This website is separate from the app. It uses Google Analytics to count page views and clicks to the App Store, with Google signals and ad personalisation turned off. If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Google Analytics stores no cookie and keeps no identifier for you; it only counts the visit. Elsewhere it sets its own cookies to tell a returning visit from a new one. Nothing else on the site sets a cookie, and the site works the same if you block them. The site is hosted on Firebase Hosting, which keeps standard request logs.

Changes to this policy

If the app’s handling of data changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top is updated.
